SUMTER COUNTY, S.C. (WCIV) -- Sheriff's department officials said Thursday that a tip that led the McCaffrey family to the Upstate was based on a dream of a family friend.
The family of Gayle McCaffrey said a tipster's information did not turn up any new leads in the search for the missing woman's body.
A family member said they received an unusual tip that led them to a specific area in their search for Gayle. The sheriff's office said the area was in Sumter County.
Officials confirmed two investigators joined the family in the search.
McCaffrey was reported missing by her husband, Robert, last March. While many searches have been conducted, investigators have come up empty-handed.
The sheriff has called the case a homicide investigation and named Robert McCaffrey as the primary suspect, but he has not been charged.
