Deputies find wrecked car, searching for missing woman
AWENDAW, S.C. (WCIV) -- The woman who was thought to be driving a car found wrecked in Andrews, S.C., has been in contact with sheriff's deputies, officials said Thursday.
Carolyn Blocker apparently left the scene of an accident after driving off Gerrin's Bridge Road late Wednesday night. A recent statement from the Charleston County Sheriff's Office did not confirm that Blocker was in the car at the time of the accident.
A spokesperson for the Charleston County Sheriff's Office says deputies found the heavily damaged car in a ditch along Guerrin's Bridge Road off Highway 17. Deputies found alcohol in the vehicle along with a cellphone showing a call made around 9:45 p.m.
The driver is believed to be 45-year-old Blocker of Charleston. Family members tell deputies that Blocker was headed to Santee, S.C. The family says Blocker may have been in the Santee area around 5:30 p.m. Wednesday. Blocker is described as a white woman, 5'7" tall weighing 150 lbs.
Deputies checked area hospitals and the location in Santee. Officials also called in a search helicopter and sent out a reverse 911 call in hopes of tracking her down. All efforts turned up empty.
On Thursday, Capt. James Brady updated the case with new information. He said investigators were told by a passerby at the scene that right after the accident, a female matching Blocker's description and an unknown white male got out of the car and were asking for a ride to the Halfway Creek Road area.
The passerby also told deputies that neither Blocker nor the man appeared injured and that Blacker and her friend were told that EMS and police had been called. The passerby saw them get into a white pickup truck that stopped at the scene anyway.
