North Charleston cops go topless for good cause

Posted: Updated:

NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCIV) – A dozen North Charleston police officers are showing what they are made of -- by shedding some clothes in a calendar.

"It was really neat to see so many officers get together on their own free time for such a great cause," Mr. May Sam Souther's said. "It's the second year the police department has posed for the calendar benefiting Special Olympics."

Mr. February, Justin Fogel, is one of the new men to this year's spread.

"I was nervous and anxious to get it over with but it was a good time," he said.

Paula Byers does marketing and development at Special Olympics South Carolina and says the calendar is great for the organization.

"Special Olympics is a grass-root organization and with their help it's not only entertaining its meaningful," she said.

Sgt. Rob Kruger, also known as Mr. August, said the calendar is inspirational in many ways to the department.

"It had a positive affect through our agency because several cops dieted down. Some didn't even want to be a part of the calendar but dieted down with the rest of us," Kruger said.

Kruger says the calendar also shows that they have a softer side beneath the badge.

"It shows a different light than we are just cops in uniform and that we are actually normal people out there working out and having fun doing other stuff rather than just hitting the streets in uniform trying to enforce laws," he said.

You can pick up your own copy of the calendar on the second floor of North Charleston City Hall in police administration.
