NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCIV) -- The race has officially begun to fill Senator Tim Scott's former U.S. House seat. Friday marks the first official day of filing for the 1st Congressional District seat.
Candidates have until February 16 to file. March 19 will be the primary date with a run-off date of April 2 if needed. Official Election Day for the special race is May 7.
The list of candidates who have officially confirmed to ABC News 4 that they are running for the U.S. House seat are as follows:
• Rep. Andy Patrick (R) • Rep. Chip Limehouse (R) • Curtis Bostic (R) • Fmr. Gov. Mark Sanford (R) • Teddy Turner IV (R) • Ray Nash (R) • Sen. Larry Grooms (R) • Elizabeth Moffly (R) • John Kuhn (R) • Bobbie Rose (D) • Martin Skelly (D)
Friday afternoon, the South Carolina Democratic Party confirmed that Elizabeth Colbert-Busch, sister of comedian Stephen Colbert and Director of Sales and Marketing at Clemson University's Wind Turbine Drivetrain Testing Facility, will file on Tuesday.
State Rep. Wendell Gaillard announced Friday that he will NOT be running, saying that his "heart is in the 6th District."
The 1st Congressional District runs along the South Coast from Charleston to Hilton Head Island and includes parts of Berkeley County.
