Investigating officials announced Tuesday morning the skeletal remains discovered at Lake Eufaula are prehistoric.
The Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation also said the remains found at the lake only belonged to one person, possibly a male.
The remains were initially believed to be that of two people and were discovered as result of lingering drought that's caused the lake level to recede.
Pittsburg County Sheriff Joel Kerns tells the McAlester News Capital (http://bit.ly/XwaEJV ) that forensic experts from the state Medical Examiner's office arrived on Tuesday to excavate the bones.
Kerns says several visitors to the lake called to report the remains. He says he's hopeful that the teeth could lead to a positive identification.
Kerns says the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation also was called to assist in the investigation.
