Oklahoma's State Auditor and Inspector is publicly accusing the leaders of EMSA of wasting public funds.
Gary Jones released his findings of a three and a half year audit Tuesday. The 46-page report begins with a letter, where Jones lays out the accusations and takes aim at the Board of Directors CEO Stephen Williamson.
"During the period examined, Mr. Williamson was reimbursed for a number of expenditures that the general public would consider unwarranted and extravagant such as spa goods and services, an American Airlines Admirals' Club membership, and multiple lifetime subscriptions to Sirius Satellite Radio," he wrote.
Auditor Jones went on to suggest that these records signal "more serious Board inadequacies".
In response to the release of the Oklahoma State Auditor and Inspector's audit final report today, EMSA is providing the following statement:
"The board and EMSA management must review the report and recommendations made by the State Auditor in detail and make decisions based on what is best for the citizens of the communities served by EMSA. What we do with the information is the critical piece of the audit process and we will be committed to improving organizational practices. The quality of care delivered by our service to our citizens in the Tulsa and Oklahoma City areas is excellent and has never been called into question."
