CHARLESTON COUNTY, S.C. (WCIV) -- A retired Charleston County Sheriff's Office K-9 passed away Tuesday due to complications after surgery. Terry was 13 years old.
According to a statement from the sheriff's office, Terry served from 2004 until his retirement in 2010. Terry remained with his handler after his retirement.
"Terry was instrumental in numerous drug and weapons seizures as well as money seizures tied to drug transactions," said Maj. Jim Brady with the sheriff's office.
Officials said Terry was taken to McAlister Smith Funeral Home for cremation after he passed.
The Charleston County Sheriff's Office K-9 unit is made up of six deputies, two supervisors and 12 canines who can track scents, search for articles, and detect drugs and explosives.
