1 wounded in West Ashley shooting

The shooting happened near the intersection of Davidson Avenue and East Street. The shooting happened near the intersection of Davidson Avenue and East Street.

WEST ASHLEY, S.C. (WCIV) -- One person was wounded in a shooting in West Ashley Wednesday night, Charleston police officials said. 

According to Charleston police, the shooting happened abound 8:40 p.m. near the intersection of Davidson Avenue and East Street off of Magnolia Road in West Ashley. 

The victim was shot in the hip, police said. The victim, whose identity has not been released, was alert and conscious, officials added. 

After the shooting, the man ran to a home on 5th Avenue where the residents called police. The man was taken to Medical University Hospital.

Police are still gathering information to determine what led to the shooting as well as the identity of the suspect.
