CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCIV) -- The Charleston County Park and Recreation Commission is searching for its next Top Dog mascot and he/she could be looking at you right now!
Starting February 1, doggy moms and dads can nominate their special pooches online at www.ccprc.com/topdog in a contest to be the furry face of the county parks service. Entries must be received by Feb. 15. The voting will run from Feb. 16 until Feb 27.
The lucky dog chosen to be the official mascot of dog parks and pet events for 2013 will represent the CCPRC in promotional opportunities at select county park events, photo opportunities and more.
To be eligible for consideration, a dog must:
• Be a regular visitor to the CCPRC dog parks
• Possess good manners in public, be sociable, patient and have a friendly personality
• Be photogenic
• Be available to represent CCPRC as "spokesdog" for a year beginning April 2013
• Show record of current and up-to-date vaccinations
Voting will close at 5 p.m. on Feb. 27. Visit www.ccprc.com in February for details on how to vote. Finalists will be interviewed in March at Dolittle's pet store, and a winner and runner-up will be selected from those finalists..
The winning Top Dog and Vice Top Dog will be announced at CCPRC's Pet Fest at Palmetto Islands County Park on April 13. Handing over the crown will be loyal 2012 CCPRC Top Dog Jax, the winner of last year's CCPRC's Top Dog contest, and 2012 Vice Top Dog Winston.
The winning dog's owner will receive a free Gold Pass for 2013. The Top Dog will receive an official mascot collar, leash and t-shirt. The selected pooch will also have his or her photo grace the cover of CCPRC's Quarterly Parks and Program Guide and a feature article and photo in CCPRC's Leisure Line e-newsletter.
