JOINT BASE ELMENDORF-RICHARDSON, Alaska (AP/WCIV) — The Army says a soldier stationed at Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson in Anchorage has been charged in the Christmas morning shooting death of another soldier at the military base.

Pfc. Grant Wise was found dead in another soldier's barracks room.

The Anchorage Daily News reports that the Army announced Wednesday it has charged 23-year-old Spc. Marshall Drake with involuntary manslaughter, negligent homicide and failure to obey regulations.

In a written statement, the Army alleges that Drake shot Wise. Officials also say Drake wrongfully stored his personal firearm and ammunition in the barracks and failed to disclose and register the gun.

Army spokesman Lt. Col. William Coppernoll said he could not provide any additional details about the shooting.

Drake is originally from Mount Pleasant, S.C. According to a release from the Army, Drake

joined the Army in October 2009, graduated from Basic Training at Fort Benning, Ga., and was assigned to Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson in March 2010. He deployed to Afghanistan from December 2011 to October 2012.

The 25-year-old Wise was originally from Fairport, N.Y.
