AWENDAW, S.C. (WCIV) -- Officials with Charleston County said a firefighter was hurt while working a fire on Society Road in McClellanville Thursday.

A release sent Friday said the Awendaw District Fire Department firefighter sustained non-life-threatening injuries, was taken to Medical University Hospital and then to the Joseph M. Still Burn Center in Augusta, Ga., as a precaution.

The firefighter was released from the burn center Friday afternoon, officials said.

The family made it out of the burning mobile home without injury but four pets, including dogs and birds, died.

The  firefighter, who has not been identified, has been with the department for four years.
