CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCIV) -- A looming bus driver strike has Lowcountry parents searching for whatever options are available to help their bus-dependent students get to class on time.

"The kids do need to get to school. I mean, I'll do whatever it takes to get my children to school. That's their job. Their job is to go to school, and my job is to make sure they are taken care of," said district parent Julia Vanderpool.

Tom Steenhuysen is a Charleston County School District parent who's helping to piece together carpooling options for parents online.

"It's not going to be a disaster. It's going to be an inconvenience, and as long as we can help each other, we can minimize that inconvenience," said Steenhuysen.

Steenhuysen said once he learned about a possible bus driver strike, he looked to the Internet for solutions and ended up creating a Facebook group.

"I keep the group open. Anybody can join. Anybody can see what's being posted. Nothing is hidden there and anybody can approve to come to this group because I want it to grow fast," said Steenhuysen.

Steenhuysen adds the group, called the CCSD Bus Strike Parents Response Team, is not the group to complain about the strike or the drivers.

"This is for us parents to help each other and to figure out a way to remain positive. I don't know what the demands are for these bus drivers or what the real issue is. All I see is the problem is going to be Monday, Tuesday if there is a strike that moment," said Steenhuysen.

Steenhuysen didn't stop with the Facebook group; he now owns the rights to CCSDParents.com.

"I just started it, but I realize that in the future there is going to become other moments in time where parents are going to need a central spot to find the information," he said.

On CCSDParents.com people can sign up for information about the potential strike to come to them.

"I don't think that the school district can solve everybody's issues, they've got a lot of things coming at them," he said.

Steenhuysen said CCSDParents.com will only be used for potential bus strike information.
