Investigators did not release many details over the weekend about a fatal house fire in Cumberland County. The fact that there was a fire at this same house two months ago only added to the mystery, neighbors said.
"We actually heard the fire trucks first and we came out and went behind the house that's beside us and the flames were just roaring out the back corner window," neighbor Angela Durham said.
The fire happened around 9:30p.m. Saturday near Trindle Bowl in Hampden Township. A body was found inside the charred home. Investigators stayed tight-lipped about the identity. Neighbors feared the worst.
"I didn't get much sleep," said Durham. "It was really hard to see all the fire trucks and not knowing if she was in the house or not."
What added to the mystery, fire crews were there in late November to battle a kitchen fire.
"I don't know what to think. Like I said, we were around that night and my husband could pull her to safety," said Durham. "Then this happened again. It's heart wrenching."
"It's just weird. Two times in two months, that's weird," neighbor Jennifer Miller said. "It definitely makes you wonder. That's a heck of a coincidence."
A coincidence that authorities will vigorously investigate.
"They'll look at who made the 911 calls, what did the first people that arrived on scene see," said John Bruetsch, public information officer for Cumberland County. "They were having people write their statements out. The fire department, things like that."
Meanwhile, neighbors will anxiously await answers.
"It was really sad, it doesn't matter who it is," said Durham. "If you know them or not it's just sad that it had to happen in your neighborhood two houses down and especially when that house caught fire two months ago."
A state police fire marshal is investigating the cause of the fire.
An autopsy is scheduled for Monday.
