CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCIV) -- A deadline is drawing near for the Port of Charleston
A tentative 30-day deal between port workers and container companies expires at midnight January 28.
Members of the International Longshoreman Association are fighting with companies over container royalties.
Shipping companies have paid royalties to port workers based on each container in the past, but now want to freeze those payments.
Workers have threatened to strike if they don't continue to get two dollars per ton.
A strike would have a huge impact considering one in five state jobs depend on port operations.
