Tractor trailer wreck closes I526, snarls morning rush hour

NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCIV) -- North Charleston police are working a semi-truck accident on I-526 eastbound just beyond the Virginia Ave exit.

According to police, diesel fuel from the truck spilled out onto the roadway, closing the area for almost four hours.

Traffic built up on I-526 from the accident site all the way to I-26, and onlooker delays clogged the westbound lanes of the Don Holt and other bridges.

According to NCPD spokesperson Spencer Pryor,  the tractor trailer was traveling too fast for conditions on I-526 eastbound between Virginia and the Don Holt and rear ended the car in front.

The car in front rear ended another and the tractor trailer began to leak fuel. DHEC was called on scene.

One lane finally opened just before noon and both lanes were open just 15 minutes later.
