Bus headed to Academic Magnet catches fire, officials say

NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCIV) - A bus headed to Academic Magnet High School caught fire Tuesday morning on Highway 17, officials with Charleston County School District said.

According to district officials, there were four students on the bus at the time of the fire. None of them were injured and all were taken safely to school in another vehicle.

Officials with the Charleston County Sheriff's Office said the fire happened in front of St. James Santee Elementary School around 6:15 a.m. The driver was able to put the fire out with an extinguisher stored in the bus, deputies said.

District officials said the bus was one maintained by Durham School Services.
