NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCIV) - Twenty years ago the North Charleston Coliseum opened its doors for the first time to the World Figure Skating Championships.
Since then, the venue has played host to over 2,000 events and 8 million people that funneled millions of dollars into the local economy.Some of the biggest names in entertainment, including Prince, Billy Joel, Elton John, Dave Matthews, The Beach Boys and Bruce Springstein. It's also home to the South Carolina Stingrays hockey team.
The first concert the coliseum hosted was Alan Jackson.
Officials said 600,000 hot dogs and 300,000 pounds of French fries have been sold during the facility's lifetime.
The Coliseum is posting videos of celebrities commenting on their fondest memories at the coliseum on its YouTube page.
