COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) -- The 200th anniversary of the birthday of Germany composer Richard Wagner is being marked by a symposium and a silent film showing at the University of South Carolina.
University spokeswoman Frenche Brewer says Wednesday's event is being held at the School of Music recital hall at 7:30 p.m. The silent film "Die Nibelungen: Siegfried" is being presented with a musical accompaniment by organist Dennis James.
The event is part of a world-wide celebration of the composer and events examining the influence of his life and music in the 19th, 20th and 21st centuries. The event is sponsored by the College of Arts and Sciences and the School of Music.
