CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCIV) -- Firefighters responded to an apartment fire at Ashley Oaks Apartments shortly after 8 a.m. Thursday.

According to Charleston Fire officials, they found light smoke coming from a second story apartment of the eight-unit building.

Crews from CFD and St. Andrews FD worked to isolate the fire, ventilate the roof, and evacuate residents. No injuries were reported.

A CFD spokesperson said the damage was contained to the attic above one apartment, with water and smoke damage affecting the attic area above four apartments.

He also said the cause of the fire is under investigation but is believed to be related to the air conditioning unit that served the building.

Units from the City of Charleston Fire Department, Saint Andrews Fire Department, North Charleston Fire Department, and Charleston County EMS all responded.
