Cody Worley appointed quarterbacks, b-backs coach

Posted: Updated:

CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCIV) - The Citadel head coach Kevin Higgins has announced the promotion of two-year staff veteran Cody Worley to quarterbacks and B-backs coach.

Worley replaces Craig Candeto, who departed The Citadel in December to become the head coach at Capital University.

Worley joined the Bulldog staff in July 2011 as special teams quality control coach. He helped put together special teams game plans and assisted with a unit that tied the FCS record with nine blocked punts during the 2011 season. Following that season he became the offensive quality control coach and assistant quarterbacks and B-backs coach.

"The opportunity to start my career as a fulltime coach is something I have been working toward, and I'm very excited to get started," said Worley. "I'm looking forward to getting to work with our players in the meeting room and on the practice field.

"The transition will be easier since I've had the opportunity to work with Ben, Aaron and Darien the past two years, "continued Worley, referring to quarterbacks Ben Dupree and Aaron Miller and B-back Darien Robinson. "A lot of things will stay the same but a lot will be different as they get accustomed to my coaching style."

Worley attended Furman and was the starting quarterback for the Paladins his junior and senior seasons. He passed for over 1,500 yards and accounted for 19 touchdowns his final year, earning one honorable mention Southern Conference Offensive Player of the Week award and the team's offensive player of the week accolades on four occasions.

He also merited a spot on the SoCon Academic Honor Roll during the 2007-08 academic year. Worley received his bachelor's degree in communication studies from Furman in December 2010 and a master's certification in health, exercise and sport sciences from The Citadel in July 2012.

The Bulldogs begin spring practice on Friday, Feb. 8, culminating in the annual spring game at Johnson Hagood Stadium on Saturday, March 9 at 1 p.m.
