Affidavit: Hanahan woman embezzled $25K from city of Hanahan

HANAHAN, S.C. (WCIV) - A former city of Hanahan employee was charged Friday with embezzling nearly $25,000 from her employer.

According to a statement from the State Law Enforcement Division, 48-year-old Kimberly Crolley Murdaugh was charged with one count of embezzlement of public funds. Murdaugh is being held in the Berkeley County Detention Center.

The affidavit states Murdaugh took $24,354 from the City of Hanahan between December 2005 and March 2010, while she was employed by the city. She was employed as the human resources manager and payroll director for the city, court documents state.

The affidavit states Murdaugh neglected to pay insurance premiums while making claims that cost the city thousands of dollars.

If convicted, she faces fines and a 10-year prison sentence.
