Lancaster County cracks down on gambling machines

Posted: Updated:

LANCASTER, S.C. (AP) -- The Lancaster County sheriff is the latest South Carolina lawman to promise a crackdown on gambling machines.

Sheriff Barry Faile says anyone possessing a gambling machine in his county has two weeks to get rid of it or face arrest and prosecution.

Several law enforcement agencies have cracked down on the machines since the South Carolina Senate passed a bill leaving no ambiguity that the machines were illegal last month.

State law banned gambling machines based on chance in 2000, but some machine owners have argued that their games are based on skill.
