COLLETON, S.C. (WCIV) -- While patrolling Highway 17A South near Dorchester Road in Summerville Monday, a deputy noticed a white male at the Greenwave BP and recognized him as Francis Rapagna whom the deputy believed was wanted in Dorchester County.
Once the deputy ran the tags and found that the same vehicle was involved in a failure to stop incident in Summerville a few weeks prior, he turned on his lights and tried to stop Rapagna.
Instead of stopping, deputies say Rapagna sped up, reaching speeds of 100 MPH towards Colleton County.
Deputies say as Rapagna turned onto McDanieltown Rd., his vehicle left the pavement, then over corrected, lost control and ran into a ditch striking a tree.
Deputies said Rapagna took off on foot into the woods so they set up a perimeter and K-9 teams from the Colleton sheriff's office and Dorchester County Sheriff's Office started sniffing.
Later, dispatch got an anonymous tip that said Rapagna was walking down McDanieltown Rd. Deputies found him and arrested him, charging him with failure to stop for blue lights, resisting arrest, being a habitual offender, and use of tag for another vehicle.
Rapagna also has three outstanding bench warrants through Dorchester County and Charleston County.
