PAWLEY'S ISLAND, S.C. (WCIV) - Georgetown County deputies arrested two men in connection to the beating death of a Georgetown man Saturday morning.

According to deputies, 41-year-old Ronnie Gene Ackley, Jr. was arrested and charged with the murder of 37-year-old Thomas Edward Unrue, Jr. shortly after the incident. They arrested 37-year-old Chris Brian Campbell on Saturday afternoon.

Campbell will also be charged with murder, deputies said.

Ackley and Campbell allegedly got into a fight with Unrue around 3 a.m. Saturday at Lumpy's Bar & Grill. When deputies arrived, they found Unrue lying in the parking lot and in need of immediate medical assistance. EMS took the man to a nearby hospital where he later died.

Multiple witnesses told deputies that Unrue was asked to leave the bar several times which led to a verbal altercation outside the front door of the business. The verbal jabs escalated into physical violence, which is when Campbell and Ackley beat Unrue until he was unconscious, deputies said.

Ackley was arrested at the scene of the fight and taken to the Georgetown County Detention Center.

Campbell was found by Lexington County deputies at his home. He will remain in their custody until he is transferred to Georgetown County.
