GEORGETOWN, S.C. (WCIV) - Brarron Lowe is a unique little boy.
Sure, he like sports and video games and toys and he certainly enjoys playing with his iPad.
But he suffers from a type of dwarfism, called Cartilage-hair hypoplasia (CHH), that causes an immune deficiency and it means he will have to undergo a bone marrow transplant.
In fact, the last half of this year could be spent in a Charleston hospital room recuperating from the transplant.
His mom, Noelle Lowe, said tests are scheduled for the second week of June. If all goes well, the third week of June 5-year-old Brarron will start chemotherapy treatments followed by the transfusion.
The goal seems like a simple one -- a more normal life for a boy who currently sees a rotating team of doctors and takes dose after dose after dose of medications to keep him well.
If the transfusion works, he may be able to cut out some of the doctor visit and some of the medication. And that's not all.
"He could do public school, we don't have to monitor him so closely who he'll be around and a common cold would be just that, a common cold," Noelle Lowe said.
His family got pretty lucky, too. Brarron's little sister is a bone marrow match.
Right now, his family is preparing for the long hospital stay with fundraisers and selling dwarfism awareness bracelets for $2. Beef O'Brady's in downtown Georgetown is also collecting donations for the family.
A bank account has also been set up at South Carolina Bank and Trust for anyone who wants to donate. Contributions can be made to the Lisa Lowe Brarron Foundation.
