GOOSE CREEK, S.C. (WCIV) – For the 36,000 people who live in the city, Goose Creek is the best of both worlds.
"It pretty much got everything up here," Lloyd Gabriel said.
At the community center Tuesday, residents came to take advantage the amenities the six year center offers.
"The services that the city offers are outstanding. The gym we are standing in right now, $50 a year for a resident," Gabriel said.
The city was established in 1961 and has not raised property taxes in 33 years.
The median home value in Goose Creek is $160,500. In 2012, a house valued at $160,500 would pay $98.23 for their property tax bill.
Mayor Michael Heitzler says the city has been debt free since November.
"We have sufficient money in the bank to build two additional fire departments, one being a command center," he said.
According to Charleston Trident Agency of Realtors, the city's real estate market has been consistent and has made positive progress in the last 13 months.
"At the end of 2012, the area's sales increased a healthy and sustainable 4 percent throughout the year and median price followed suit, edging up 3.2 percent to $160,000. In comparison, that's where median prices stood at the end of 2008, before reaching a low of $153,000 in 2010," communications director Meghan Weinreich said.
The area also has some of the fastest-selling property in the region, at an average of 81 days on the market.
"Inventory has declined as well, with nearly 22 percent fewer homes for sale, which can make for a more competitive market environment," she said.
Rodney and Linda Wilson have been living in Goose Creek for two years and say it is one of the most charming places they have lived.
"If you are stopped on the road someone will come out and help you. If you ride by folks they stop and wave at you. It's just a great place to live," she said.
