Communities in Dauphin County are cashing in thanks to casino money.

More than $8 million in gaming money from slots at Hollywood Casino in Grantville will be going towards dozens of projects all across the county.

Over the past several months, the county has been going through more than 100 requests for how to spend this year's gaming revenue. "Each year there's more and more ask, and more and more requests," said Dauphin County Commissioner Jeff Haste.

A big chunk of the money is going towards projects to keep you safe. Harrisburg is getting $400,000 to purchase 10 new police cars. That's money the city otherwise wouldn't have. "This equipment was very much needed," said Capt. Colin Cleary of the Harrisburg Police Department, "these funds are very much appreciated."

The home of the casino, East Hanover Township, is getting more than $2 million. Some of that will go towards Grantville's new fire station. It's seriously outgrown the old one. The trucks and the firefighters barely fit inside. The new firehouse will solve lots of problems. "This building is centrally located," said Wayne Isett of the Grantville Fire Company. "We can get to all areas of the township quicker and also the surrounding communities."

This money is not going to be used for just public safety. It's going to be used for a lot of other projects including infrastructure. That includes things like transportation, bridges, and sewers.

"So that as we go to expand our community, we have our core functions available here and they're in top notch shape. So that as people come here they're able to have that benefit," said Haste.

This money is all coming from slots revenue, table games fall into a different category. The commissioners approved money for more than 50 projects across the county. Here's a look at the different communities receiving money, and what it will be used for.

East Hanover Twp.—$2,064,000 for a new firehouse and public works building, bridge project, waste water treatment plant upgrade and municipal vehicles, and equipment

West Hanover Twp.—$500,000 for fire station debt

Middle Paxton Twp.—$400,000 for debt service for shared municipal services building and new pumper tanker (conditional on municipal loan for $235,000)

Derry Twp.—$265,000 for fire apparatus debt and upgraded computer technology for police department

South Hanover Twp.—$380,000 for municipal complex and emergency services center and additional land acquisition

Rush and Jefferson Twps.—$10,275 for guide rail study for Carsonville Road

Millersburg Borough—$96,000 for water rescue equipment for fire department

Lower Paxton Township—$90,060 for in-car digital video cameras for police department

Harrisburg—$409,000 for ten new patrol vehicles for police department

Conewago Twp.—$132,000 for intergovernmental bridge replacement project

Berrysburg Borough—$125,000 for replacement of waste water treatment plant tanks (condition of borough or authority financing overall project)

Elizabethville Borough—Reduce debt on rescue/pumper engine

Mifflin Township—$163,000 for improvements to Smith Road

Swatara Township—$212,000 for replacement of pumper engine (first installment) and reallocation of prior grant

Halifax Borough—$149,000 for road project to improve safe access to Veterans' Park

Pillow Borough—$204,000 for water main replacement project

Lykens Borough—$80,000 for water main replacement project

Londonderry Twp.—$250,000 for sewer expansion project and connection with Middletown

Steelton Borough—$182,000 for streetscape improvements and firefighter gear

Highspire Borough—$140,000 for sewer system improvements to spur economic development

Reed Twp.—$113,000 for contribution to fire protection and apparatus

Upper Paxton Twp.—$120,000 for new ambulance for Millersburg Area Ambulance Association

Harrisburg Area Community College—$250,000 for Shumaker Public Safety Center renovations and expansion

West Hanover Township/MDJ Witmer—$200,000 for Administrative Office of the Pennsylvania Courts compliant facility for Magisterial District Justice Witmer

SARAA—$100,000 for equipment to promote runway safety during winter

Susquehanna Twp.—$50,000 for expansion and improvements to Capital Area Greenbelt

Dauphin County Library System—$151,500 for replacement of Integrated Library System software

Hamilton Health Center—$238,000 for funds for unanticipated costs in health center construction

Pennsylvania State Police Museum—$160,000 for expansion project (contingent upon receipt of matching funds for project)

Dauphin County General Authority—$130,000 for a new roof for clubhouse and renovation of additional facility and reallocation of grant

Paxtang Borough—$90,000 for Greenbelt relocation project

Penn State Harrisburg—$104,000 for campus and community security improvements

Jewish Federation of Greater Harrisburg—$225,000 for flood mitigation measures for Jewish Community Center

Ronald McDonald House—$112,000 for pedestrian safety improvements

Millersburg Borough—$104,000 for engineering study for ferry wall and for youth center improvements

Catholic Charities—$60,000 for new vehicles to support social services

Susquehanna Twp.—$25,000 for recreational improvements

Tri-County Development Corporation—$16,500 for technology upgrades

Dauphin County Technical School—$11,000 for robotics team equipment

Channels Food Rescue—$8,000 for equipment for jobs training organization

Ngozi—$6,000 for tools and supplies for urban permaculture program

Shalom House—$4,000 for women's shelter

Amiracle4sure—$2,000 for equipment and supplies for female ex-offender mentoring program

Midtown Square Action Council—$10,000 for community improvement project

Latino Hispanic American Community Center—$8,000 for renovations for multi-generational facility

PA Farm Show Complex—$67,500 for traffic and parking study for major events (contingent upon GAB approval of study specifications)

Fair Housing Council—$53,200 for renovations to counseling facility

Dauphin County Historical Society—$100,000 for renovations to Simon Cameron Mansion

Dauphin County Bar Foundation, legal aid custody attorney (contingent upon no new application prior to 2015)—$25,000
