Truck stops on tracks, hit by train in North Charleston

Posted: Updated:

NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCIV) - Police shut down Ashley Phosphate Road at South Rail for just over an hour Wednesday due to a car accident involving a train.

Roadways were opened back up around 5:45 p.m.

Police said a box truck was stopped on the tracks when the train signal was sounded. The driver could not move his vehicle because of traffic in front and behind him.

Police did say the driver was able to get out before the train hit, but a passenger remained inside the truck. The passenger was not injured, according to police.

CSX inspectors responded to the scene and traffic was redirected to Cross County Road, Palmetto Commerce Parkway and Stall Road.

Police have not commented on the accident. Stay with ABCNews4.com for more information on this developing story.
