
GOOSE CREEK, S.C. (WCIV) - Goose Creek is going smoke free this summer.
The new law was signed by Goose Creek City Council on Jan. 8 and takes effect July, 1. It regulates smoking in public places and places of employment in the city.
Under the new law, smoking is banned in all enclosed public places with few exceptions. It applies to:
The ban also applies to common work areas, classrooms, meeting rooms, private offices, elevators, hallways, stairs, medical facilities, cafeterias, lounges, restrooms and vehicles used for transporting the public.
Smoking is also prohibited in certain outdoor areas when the use involves a gathering of the public. This prohibition shall apply to:
Smoking is also banned within 10 feet of the entrance of a building.
People who violate the ban are subject to fines up to $25. Businesses are subject to the same fines, but may also risk losing their licenses.
