ST. GEORGE, S.C. (WCIV) -- After two days in court, murder suspect Stephawn Brown pleaded guilty to the armed robbery and murder of 20-year-old Maraleius Birdsong.
Brown's attorney withdrew his motion for a mistrial late Wednesday afternoon after the state called a witness he said he didn't know about. The witness was a SLED official filling in for another agent who wrote the report on gun residue evidence used in the trial.
During the first day of proceedings, another suspect, Jontae Davis, also pleaded guilty and was sentenced to 20 years in prison. Part of his plea agreement was to testify against Brown.
Browns's sentencing will be Friday. He faces 40 to 50 years.
