SC woman charged after autopsy reveals meth

Posted: Updated:

GREENWOOD, S.C. (AP) - A Greenwood woman has been arrested after an autopsy revealed traces of methamphetamine in her infant son's body.

Thirty-3-year-old Nina Bates was arrested Tuesday and charged with illegal conduct toward a child.

Bates was 1 of 3 people arrested earlier this month after sheriff's deputies raided her home and found what appeared to be a meth lab.

The woman's month-old boy had died of asphyxiation on Dec. 12. Investigators say he died when Bates fell asleep with the child in bed. Police say the met found in the child's system was not the cause of death.

It was not clear if Bates has an attorney.
