Georgetown traffic stop leads to drug arrests

Posted: Updated:

GEORGETOWN, S.C. (WCIV) — Two men were arrested on drug charges after a traffic stop in Georgetown early Thursday morning.

According to the Georgetown County Sheriff's Office, 32-year-old Willie James Edwards and 24-year-old David Leland Yelton, both of Pawleys Island, were arrested on heroin charges.

Deputies say a patrol officer followed a car with expired tags around 1 a.m. Thursday and pulled the car over after it ran through a stop sign. When deputies searched the two men inside the car, they found 17 little bags of what is presumed to be heroin.

There was another half-gram bag of heroin in the car's center console, deputies said.

Edwards was charged with trafficking heroin and resisting arrest. Yelton was charged with possession of heroin.

Both are being held in the Georgetown County Detention Center until their bond hearings.
