Police: 12-year-old shot in thigh while playing with shot gun

WALTERBORO, S.C. (WCIV) -- A 12-year-old was accidentally shot in the upper thigh with a shot gun loaded with bird shot Wednesday evening.

According to Otis Rhodes, Chief of Walterboro Public Safety, the child was transferred to MUSC from Colleton Medical Center for non-life threatening injuries and is expected to make a full recovery.

Investigators said the victim was playing with a 16-year-old relative at a Center Street home when the shooting happened.

Walterboro Public Safety and deputies with the Colleton County Sheriff's Office are investigating.
