MOUNT PLEASANT, SC (WCIV) - The American Heart Association will be hosting its 16th Annual Heart Ball Art and Wine Auction on Saturday.
Original works of art from 15 Charleston artists will be part of the silent and live auction.
Five of the Charleston artists in this year's Heart Ball were recently selected for "Artists of the New Century." The award is given to artists who in the past five years have garnered an increasing amount of respect and recognition from peers and collectors alike due to their impressive talents.
Shannon Runquist is this year's Heart Ball featured artist who also received that distinguished award.
She has taken part in every Charleston Heart Ball prior to Saturday's. She has been a strong advocate of heart disease awareness because her husband, Dr. Lars Runquist, is a local cardiologist.
"I love working with the American Heart Association because I know the money that is donated at this event stays in our community, which is very important. There are so many generous artists who just donate their time and talents and I think each of them know it's for a worthwhile cause," she said.
The American Heart Association's goal is to raise $320,000 to help prevent heart disease. The event will take place at the Charleston Marriott on Lockwood Boulevard.
The five "Artists for the New Century" in this year's heart ball include Christopher Groves, Mark Kelvin Horton, Charles Williams, JB Boyd, and Shannon Runquist.
