NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCIV) -- A judge set bond at $100,000 Sunday morning for a Johns Island murder suspect.
Deputies say Timothy Wright shot and killed his girlfriend, Melinda Ford, last Saturday night and led deputies on a chase for hours.
Wright rolled into bond court Sunday morning in a wheelchair. Deputies say Wright suffered a self-inflicted gunshot wound during the incident. He is charged with murder and possession of a weapon during the commission of a violent crime. The bond was set for the weapons charge.
According to deputies, they responded to Betsy Kerrison Parkway around 6:30 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 16 in reference to a shooting. That is where they found Melinda Ford dead from a gunshot wound.
Officials tried to initiate a traffic stop on a white truck matching a witness description of the truck Wright was driving, but it sped off according to deputies.
Wright drove down Bohicket Road to Dunmovin Drive, crashed through a ball field's gate on Dunmovin Road and started running, according to deputies.
Deputies say they captured Wright around 1 a.m. Sunday, Feb. 17.
