RIDGEVILLE, S.C. (WCIV) -- Officials say one lane of Highway 176 has been reopened several hours after a deadly wreck in Berkeley County early Tuesday morning.

Officials say the crash occurred near the intersection of Highway 176 and Lebanon Road in Ridgeville. EMS responded to the scene just before 5 a.m.

The South Carolina Highway Patrol is investigating the crash. Trooper Bob Beres reported a tree fell into the roadway and the first car hit that tree. The driver in that car died.

The victim has been identified as 34-year-old Gregory President of Ridgeville. The coroner says President was on his way to work when the accident happened and was pronounced dead on the scene.

President's death has been ruled accidental with head and body trauma as the cause of death.

Beres said a second car also hit the tree and the people in that car were transported to the hospital.

In a third accident, troopers report there was a pickup truck that belonged to the Pine Ridge Fire Department that backed up into a Honda, but the damage was very minor and there were no injuries.
