KIAWAH ISLAND, S.C. (WCIV) - Charleston County deputies are investigating what appears to be a murder-suicide on Kiawah Island.

According to officials, deputies responded to the island shortly after 7 a.m. Wednesday after receiving a 911 call. When deputies arrived, they found a man and woman who were both dead.

Officials said Wednesday evening that a man shot his wife and then himself. Officials said both reportedly had medical issues and the husband was concerned for the wife's quality of living if he died from his medical condition.

Deputy Coroner Dottie Lindsay identified the couple as 77-year-old Thomas Reese and 84-year-old Barbara Reese.

CCSO Maj. Jim Brady says deputies found the couple lying in separate beds next to each other with gunshot wounds to the head. A revolver was found on Thomas Reese's chest.

Detectives and the Charleston County Coroner's Office investigated the incident, deputies said.
