Lamar Alexander Amos (provided)ORANGEBURG, S.C. (WCIV) -- Orangeburg County Sheriff's deputies have arrested a man accused of robbing a convenience store on Magnolia Street Monday night.
The suspect, 30-year-old Lamar Alexander Amos, is charged with possession of a weapon during the commission of a violent crime, armed robbery and failure to stop for blue lights.
According to A OCSO report, the clerk told deputies that Amos was buying a lighter around 11 p.m. when he pulled a gun, demanded cash and then took off in a brown four-door vehicle.
"Deputy Sheriffs
were called out to assist officers from the Department of Public Safety at a
residence outside of city limits," said Sheriff Leroy Ravenell. "Amos's vehicle was observed by a Deputy
Sheriff attempting to approach the residence. Authorities attempted a traffic
stop and that's when Amos led officers on a short vehicle chase. Amos jumped out of
his vehicle and ran into a wooded area. Deputy Sheriffs, the Sheriff's Office
canine officers, Orangeburg Department of Public Safety, and the SC Department
of Probation, Parole, and Pardon Services were involved in the nearly two hour
manhunt for Amos. Sheriff's Deputies took Amos into custody without
incident."
