CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCIV) -- A New Jersey company is recalling about 8,424 pounds of chicken and apple sausage that may contain small pieces of plastic.

According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Food Safety and Inspection Service, 12 oz. vacuum packages of "Applegate Organics Chicken and Apple Sausage" with "Use or Freeze By 03/17/13" on each package is being recalled.

The recalled product has the establishment number "P-5411" inside the USDA mark of inspection. The products were produced on January 24, 2013, and were sold in retail stores nationwide and through limited Internet sales in New Jersey.

FSIS reports the problem was discovered after the company received three consumer complaints, but no reports of injury have been made.  Anyone concerned about an injury from consumption of these products should contact their doctor.
