Walterboro man sentenced in burglary

Posted: Updated:

WALTERBORO, S.C. (WCIV) - A Walterboro man was sentenced to 25 years in prison Tuesday for breaking into a family's home and stealing electronics while they slept.

The jury came to a decision after the daylong trial and sentenced 26-year-old Halden Hollman of one count of first-degree burglary.

According to the solicitor's office, Hollman broke into a Woodland Terrace home on Aug. 30 and stole a television, computer, music devices and a small amount of cash.

Police found evidence in Hollman's home that linked him to the crime as well as cast suspicion on his involvement in a number of other burglaries and car break-ins in the area.

"When the police searched his home, they found a Circuit City, but with much cheaper prices," said assistant solicitor Steve Knight of the Fourteenth Circuit Solicitor's Office. "He had every electronic device you can imagine and would sell the items he stole."

The Walterboro Police Department was able to return some of the stolen items and several additional cases against Hollman are still pending.

"In this case, the reality of what Hollman did is very scary," Knight said. "There were people sleeping in that house. I am glad we put a stop to his enterprise before someone got hurt or more people were victimized in such a nightmarish manner."

State law requires Hollman to serve 85 percent of his sentence before being eligible for parole.
