Drivers union, Durham reach agreement in DD2

Posted: Updated:

DORCHESTER COUNTY, S.C. (WCIV) - Bus drivers for Dorchester County District 2 and Durham Bus Services have reached a contract deal, according to a statement from the school district.

Superintendent Joe Pye has been informed that bus drivers ratified a contract with Durham Services Tuesday night, school officials said.

According to a statement from DD2, Pye said that the district is thankful that an agreement has been reached.

"I want to thank employees and our families for all their efforts in creating contingency plans for transporting students to and from school in the event of a bus driver strike.   We appreciate the patience, understanding, and support of parents as we all focused on the safety and welfare of our children during a difficult time," he said.

Sources close to the negotiations between the bus company and Charleston County drivers said a vote has been scheduled for Saturday to approve or deny an offer from the bus company.
