BEAUFORT, S.C. (WCIV) - School officials for Beaufort County Schools said Wednesday night that bus drivers and monitors had reached a deal with Durham Bus Services.
The drivers voted to approve a five-year contract, officials said.
"This hasn't been a short or easy road to travel, but it appears that Durham and its drivers and monitors have reached an agreement that will bring stability to their relationship," said acting Superintendent Jackie Rosswurm. "For our parents, this agreement should ease their concerns about a sudden interruption in school bus service due to a strike."
Beaufort, along with Charleston County and Dorchester District 2, drivers have been working with Durham School Services to come to a new contract agreement and avert a strike.
All three systems' drivers voted to approve a strike in recent weeks after contract negotiations stalled.
Drivers and monitors in Dorchester District 2 approved their new contract earlier today, and a vote is scheduled for Charleston on Saturday.
