3 sentenced in Upstate oxycodone ring

Posted: Updated:

ANDERSON, S.C. (AP) - Three people have been sentenced for their roles in a scheme to sell oxycodone in South Carolina's Upstate.

U.S. Attorney Bill Nettles says Richard Jody Silvers was sentenced Thursday to more than 14 years in prison. Heath A. Cash was sentenced to eight years, and Gabriel E. Calderon received a nearly 4-year sentence.

Nettles says Silvers created fraudulent oxycodone prescriptions and recruited people to sell the pills for $20 each.

Authorities say Silvers would either pay the prescription passers money or give them pills as compensation.

Nettles says Silvers recruited Cash, who subsequently recruited Calderon. Authorities say the conspiracy operated from April 2011 until August of last year.
