Coroner identifies man killed in early morning crash

PINEVILLE, S.C. (WCIV) -- An early morning crash left one person dead along Matilda Circle in Pineville.

The South Carolina Highway Patrol says the driver was heading south along Matilda Circle in the Pineville community of Berkeley County around midnight.

Officials say his sedan ran off the left side of the roadway and overturned. The driver was not wearing a seatbelt.

The coroner has identified the victim as 26-year-old Denvil Thompson of St. Stephen. Thompson was pronounced dead on the scene due to head trauma. His death is ruled as accidental.

No other vehicles were involved in the crash. The incident remains under investigation by the South Carolina Highway Patrol.
