CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCIV/AP) -- A spokesperson for the South Carolina Department of Corrections says a man who escaped from a pre-release center in North Charleston was captured early Friday morning.
South Carolina corrections spokesman Clark Newsom said 21-year-old Travis Hammet has been transported to Lieber Correctional Institute in Ridgeville.
Newsom said Hammet was reported missing after the 9:30 p.m. inmate count in North Charleston Thursday. He was captured by officials with the SC Dept. of Corrections and Charleston Police around 2:25 a.m. Friday, according to Newsom.
Newsom said Hammet was serving time for a second-degree burglary conviction. He was up for parole this year and was to have served his maximum sentence by 2015.
