Georgetown, S.C. – Matt Godleski and Jordan Buster combined on a two-hitter with 13 strikeouts and Ryan Brown belted a two-run homer that helped top-ranked Lexington to a 4-1 win over 6th-ranked Wando in third round action in the 2013 International Paper High School Baseball Classic at Mike Johnson Park on Saturday.
Lexington, which plays at 10:0 a.m. on Sunday against an opponent to be determined, improved to 3-1. Wando fell to 2-3.
Godleski (1-0) picked up the win in relief of starter Jordan Buster allowing no runs on just one hit with 10 strikeouts over the final 4 1/3 innings. Godleski's last eight outs of the game were strikeouts. Buster surrendered only a solo homer with three strikeouts over the first 2 2/3 innings. Michael Carpin (0-1) suffered the loss allowing four runs, two earned, on four hits with three strikeouts while going the distance.
After Troy Rosado gave Wando a 1-0 lead in the top of the second inning with a solo homer to center field, Lexington's Cole McMillan, who had walked and stole second base, scored to tie the game at 1-all on a field error in the bottom of the second. David Barboza's sacrifice fly in the fourth gave Lexington the lead for good at 2-1.
Brice Kirven walked with one out in the fifth inning and Brown belted the next pitch over the right field wall for the final margin.
Brown finished 1-for-2 with a run scored and two RBI while Nick Ciuffo, Dalton Addy and David Barboza added hits.
