Apartment fire displaces 10, one firefighter injured

CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCIV) -- Multiple fire crews responded to Townhouse Village Apartments on Cedarhurst Ave. Sunday.

According to a spokesperson with the Charleston Fire Depart men, the fire happened around 1:30 p.m. and first arriving units reported heavy fire and smoke coming from one unit.

Residents were evacuated and fire damage was contained to one of eight units in the building with water and smoke damage extending to the adjacent units. Five of those units have been listed as unsafe until electrical and building systems can be reviewed.

The Red Cross reports that 10 people were displaced and are receiving aid.

A CFD spokesperson said no one was home at the time of the fire and no residents were injured. One firefighter sustained a minor burn and was treated on the scene.

Units from the Charleston, Saint Andrews, and North Charleston Fire Departments were dispatched.
