CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCIV) - An award-winning Charleston photographer is being honored at the White House for her war photography and her work with veterans.
Stacy Pearsall will be recognized as a champion of change on March 19 in Washington. She is a former Air Force combat photographer who has earned several awards, including the Bronze Star. She was also twice awarded the NPPA Military Photographer of the Year competition.
She is the only woman to have earned the NPPA award twice.
"It's a real honor to be part of that group of women who worked really hard to achieve certain goals for other people. It's nice to know that your acts of energy have really paid off for others," she said.
She owns and operates the Charleston Center for Photography, a 5,600 square foot photography gallery, lecture hall and studio. Pearsall also teaches photography around the world.
Her non-profit organization, the Veterans Portrait Project Foundation, documents military veterans through still photography, motion picture, audio recording and written word. It was featured at Charleston's Veterans Affairs hospital several years ago. The photos of South Carolina veterans is on permanent exhibit in the VA.
In Pearsall's spare time, she also gathers donated clothes and bath supplies for homeless veterans.
