SCFC: Controlled burn today on Hobcaw Barony

Posted: Updated:

GEORGETOWN, S.C. (WCIV) - The South Carolina Forestry Commission is conducting a controlled burn Thursday at Hobcaw barony in Georgetown.

The 550-acre controlled burn is being done to reduce the risk of hazards and for wildlife management, the agency said. The fire will help prevent future wildfires and benefit the resident wildlife.

Hobcaw Barony is a 17,500 acre wildlife preserve. Currently, the University of South Carolina and Clemson University have long-term research facilities in the area.
