NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCIV) -- Charleston County's bomb squad was called to Academic Magnet High School in North Charleston Thursday afternoon to investigate a suspicious package left in a field.

The North Charleston Police Department is the lead agency on the scene. They requested the bomb squad's presence.

Charleston County School District officials issued a comment on the district's Facebook page: "The campus is under administrative lock down. Police are on the scene and some students are still on campus. Students are safe. Once the police clear the scene, students will be dismissed."

A tweet from the district's official account said students were being dismissed as of 4 p.m.

North Charleston officials said the bomb squad inspected the package and did not find anything threatening about it. The lockdown was lifted around 3:45 p.m., officials said.
